OCCASIONAL BRIDGE CLOSURE
The 210 -year-old historic Old Wye Bridge linking Chepstow (Wales) and Gloucestershire (England) has had structural problems and is completely closed to traffic. It is partially open to pedestrians – but they close it to pedestrians if the weather is extreme (in the extreme heat. In June 2026 it was closed for a few days). We suggest you check the status of the bridge on this page https://www.monmouthshire.gov.

6. OTHER WALKS
Other walks to google are St Tewdrics Way, Chepstow Riverside, Walks in Chepstow, the Chepstow to Monmouth section of the Wye Valley walk, and other The Gloucestershire Way, Wye Valley Greenway, Llancaut Peninsula, Gray Hill, Shirenewton and Llanmellin Hillfort, Caldicot Castle and Black Rock, The Gwent Levels, The Monmouthshire Way, and the Ramblers have some suggestions here
WASHING BOOTS / PAWS
After your walk, you can wash muddy boots (or muddy paws) using our outside tap. Come in through the gate and turn right along the path (instead of left). The shed at the end has an outside tap. Help yourself. If you have a dog there should be dog towels hanging in a black bag on the ground floor of the Gatehouse.
