- Millers Arms: a friendly pub that serves good wholesome meals. Developing a reputation for its welcome and good value so best to book (Mathern, within walking distance 8-10 mins walk). Recent Gatehouse guests said they had a fabulous ‘pub grub’ meal here.
- The Indian Empire: (On the Park Wall roundabout on the A48, 5 mins drive).
- Tamarind: is a better Indian, about a 12 minute drive – this is the one Juliet and William go to.
- Rock and Fountain: Good food, put grub plus, reasonable prices, Juliet and William recommend this for a casual night out.
- St Pierre a Marriot Hotel, has two dining rooms, formal and informal bistro (25 minute walk across fields, or a 7 minute drive)
- The Woodland Tavern Llanfair Discoed (15-20 mins drive)
Country pub with dining, we haven’t eaten there for a while.
- Pane e Vino (Italian) Chepstow (10 min drive)
Offers home cooked Italian food from its riverside location overlooking the River Wye in Chepstow.
- Shangri La Restaurant: Chinese Restaurant and take away, Chepstow, (10 min drive.)
- Two Rivers Marstons Pub/Restaurant, towards Chepstow (6 mins drive). We have not eaten there for a while, this restaurant is part of a chain.

- Chepstow Garden Centre Garden restaurant and cafe bar. Serves a selection of speciality teas, coffee cakes, paninis, toasties, main meals, light bites and breakfasts. Walking distance (1.2 miles)
- There are several Coffee shops in Chepstow (Beaufort Square/St Mary’s Street)
- The Old Railway Station Tea Roms at Tintern offers afternoon tea and snacks in a rural setting
