ACCESS STATEMENT FOR THE GATEHOUSE

This is a grade 2* listed building, with both historic and architectural interest.

Pre Arrival We are able to offer the literature in a large print format if that is helpful

Access is via a private drive

Parking There is space for 2 cars, if carefully parked one behind the other

Approach On Foot The approach involves a relatively smooth path (flagstones – so not entirely flat) with a small step as you pass through the external gate.

Inside the Building Ground floor The only thing here is a washing/drying machine. Then there is a steep spiral staircase with 15 stone steps and 14 wooden steps to access First Floor. There is a solid hand rail on one side, and a rope to hold with the other hand if required. Please be careful on the stairs at all times and hold on to both the hand rail and the rope where possible.

First Floor: Lounge area, kitchen, and wetroom with a shower, toilet and sink

Bedroom Area: Access to the bedroom area requires using a companionway ladder, and then ducking under a beam

Second Floor: There are 12 wooden steps to access Second Floor Dressing Room and Luggage Area.

Tower: There are 18 wooden steps to access the exit trap door to the top of the tower. Please note that HIGH HEELS ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT ALLOWED ON THE TOP OF THE TOWER. This is both for safety, and also becuase they will penetrate the lead roof and cause damage and water ingress.

Suitcases: We strongly recommend that you bring two smaller bags rather than one large suitcase, as the stone spiral staircase is restricted for space.

Mobility Difficulties: Anyone with significant mobility problems is unlikely to be able to access the first floor, which is the accommodation area. As this is a listed (Grade II*) property, we cannot make provision for those with mobility problems. Sorry.
